Origin: A borrowing from Cree. Etymon: Cree name:kos.
Etymology: < Cree name:kos < Proto-Algonquian *name:kw- lake trout + *-ehs, diminutive suffix. N.E.D. (1906) gives the pronunciation as (næ·mekɒʃ) /ˈnæmeɪkʌʃ/.
The North American lake trout, Salvelinus namaycush, which is a large greyish char.
