Origin: Probably a borrowing from French. Etymon: French muserole.
Etymology: Probably Middle French, French muserole (although this is first attested later: 1593; 1611 in Cotgrave as muserolle ) < Italian museruola (1554), probably < Italian regional (Venice) musiera , variant of musoliera (16th cent.; < Middle French, French muselière (1474) < musel muzzle n.1 + -ière (compare -ier suffix)) + -ola -ole suffix1.
Obsolete.
The noseband of a bridle, esp. one used for training purposes.
