Designating or relating to the permanent shortening of a muscle, esp. one which has been immobilized for a long period.

Neurol. & Psychopathol. 8 305 By myostatic contracture we mean to designate a condition of permanent shortening in resting muscle which is maintained in the entire absence of nerve pulses, the muscle having acquired, usually as a result of prolonged immobility, a new and shorter resting length.
