Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymons: French mezzair, mézair.
Etymology: < French mezzair (1638), mézair (1762) < Italian mezzaria (16th cent.; also in phrase a mezz'aria in mid air (1750)) < mezzo middle (see mezzo adv.) + aria air (see air n.1); originally used with reference to the movement being at a height halfway between the terre-à-terre and curvet (see quot. 1754).
Dressage.
A movement involving a series of levades with a short step between each.
