Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymons: French mutilé, mutiler.
Etymology: < French mutilé (1845; 1924 or earlier in mutilé de guerre person who has become an amputee as a result of war), past participle of mutiler mutile v.
More fully mutilé de (la) guerre. A war veteran who has suffered disabling injuries in service. Also in extended use.
