Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element; modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: Latin nānus , -ization suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin nānus dwarf (see nano- comb. form) + -ization suffix, after French naniser (1875). Compare earlier nanism n. and slightly later nanity n. N.E.D. (1906) gives the pronunciation as (nēinəizēi·ʃən) /neɪnaɪˈzeɪʃən/.
Obsolete. rare.
The process of artificially producing dwarf trees or plants.
