Etymology: < German Naumannit (W. Haidinger Handb. der bestimmenden Mineral. (1845) 565) < the name of Karl F. Naumann (1797–1873), German mineralogist + -it -ite suffix¹.

Native silver selenide, Ag₂Se, crystallizing in the orthorhombic system and usually occurring as black metallic cubes.
