Origin: From a proper name. Etymon: proper name Nariokotome.
Etymology: < Nariokotome (Turkana Naryokotome , lit. ‘(place) by the black elephants’), the name of a place near Lake Turkana, in the Turkana District of the Rift Valley province of western Kenya, where the skeleton was found. Compare slightly earlier Turkana n. 3.
