Origin: From a proper name.
Etymology: < a Narragansett place name, later adopted as the name of a town and bay in Rhode Island; senses A. 2, B. 2, and B. 3 are probably direct from the latter.The tribal name, Narragansett Nanhigganẽuck, was derived from this place name.
