Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; modelled on a Greek lexical item. Etymons: necro- comb. form, -latry comb. form.
Etymology: < necro- comb. form + -latry comb. form, after Byzantine Greek νεκρολατρεία worship of the dead (Cyril of Alexandria, 5th cent.). Compare French nécrolâtrie (1823).
Worship of or excessive reverence for the dead.
