Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; perhaps modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: necro- comb. form, -logue comb. form.
Etymology: < necro- comb. form + -logue comb. form, perhaps after French nécrologue book or register where the names of the dead are recorded (1721; 1828 in sense ‘person who writes necrologies’).
An obituary notice or article.
