Origin: A borrowing from a language of Senegal.
Etymology: < a language of Senegal; compare Noon nebneb, nepnep, Serer nebneb, nèfnèf, nepnep, Wolof nèbnèb, nèpnèp.In francophone countries nèbnèb generally designates the variety adansonii in contrast to gonakié which designates the varieties nilotica and tomentosa. See further H. M. Burkill Useful Plants West Trop. Afr. (ed. 2, 1995) III. 186ff.
