Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Nebelwerfer.
Etymology: < German Nebelwerfer < Nebel mist, fog, haze (see nebula n.) + Werfer thrower, mortar ( < werfen to throw (see warp v.) + -er -er suffix1).
Now historical.
A six-barrelled rocket mortar used by the German forces in the Second World War (1939–45).
