单词 neuropilema
释义

neuropileman.

Brit. /ˌnjʊərəʊˈpʌɪliːmə/, U.S. /ˌn(j)ʊroʊˌpaɪˈlimə/
Forms: 1800s– neuropilema, 1900s– neuropilem.
Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Neuropilem.
Etymology: < German Neuropilem (W. His 1890, in Arch. f. Entwickelungsges. (Anat. Abth.) Suppl. 113) < neuro- (see neuro- comb. form) + Hellenistic Greek πίλημα felt (already in ancient Greek in sense ‘compression’) < πιλεῖν to make wool into felt (already in ancient Greek in sense ‘to compress’; < πῖλος wool made into felt: see note) + -μα (see -oma comb. form). Compare also German Neuropilema (1891 in the passage translated in quot. 1891).It has been suggested that ancient Greek πῖλος may be related to classical Latin pilleus felt cap (see pileus n.), but the etymology of this word is also obscure, and both may represent loans from a non-Indo-European language.
Anatomy and Zoology. disused.
= neuropil n. 1.
