Etymology: Partly < Dutch †noyra (1596 in the passage translated in quot. 1598), partly < Portuguese †nori (c1560; 1516 as noire ; Portuguese nore ), and partly < their etymon Malay nuri (see lory n.; also earlier as nori). Compare post-classical Latin nori (c1430), noyra (1601).
