1891 H. Randolph in Zoologischer Anzeiger 14 154 The new mesoderm is formed in great part from specialized cells in the region of the peritonaeal epithelium of the ventral longitudinal muscles, on each side of the ventral nerve cord between it and the ventral row of setae. These cells, which I propose to call neoblasts, are distinguishable from the cells of the peritonaeum by their great size and by the presence of a cell body.
1930 Jrnl. Linn. Soc. 37 186 The cells concerned in the phagocytosis and replacement of tissues are derived from neoblasts in the ventral body-wall.
1972 Jrnl. Morphol. 137 217/2 The confusion between peritoneal cells, so-called neoblasts, and oocytes in polychaetes has a considerable historical basis.
1989 Development 107 77 Planarian neoblasts can be qualified as totipotent stem cells and the main source of blastema cells.

1975 Jrnl. Petrol. 16 459 This [sc. porphyroclastic] texture presents two kinds of olivine and enstatite crystals: large and elongated strained grains (porphyroclasts) and small generally polygonal strain-free ones (neoblasts).
1978 Nature 3 Aug. 429/2 Two generations of olivine crystals coexist: larger porphyroclasts and smaller, recrystallised neoblasts: an olivine foliation and spinel lineation develop.
1994 Jrnl. Structural Geol. 16 880/1 The occurrence of new subgrains within migrational neoblasts suggests that dynamic recrystallization is a cyclical process.
