1922 Lancet 13 May 964/1 The comparative anatomical researches of Edinger and Connolly appeared to show that the vermis and flocculus constituted the (old) palæo-cerebellum, and the lateral lobes the (new) neo-cerebellum.
1954 J. Jansen & A. Brodal Aspects Cerebellar Anat. vi. 384 We may appropriately close this discussion by commenting briefly on the much debated concepts paleocerebellum, comprising the vermis and the flocculus, and neocerebellum, comprising the cerebellar hemispheres... From the point of view of gross morphology these concepts may appear well founded. On the basis of fiber connections, however, a paleocerebellum and a neocerebellum sensu strictiori are not distinguishable.
1974 Encycl. Brit. Macropædia XII. 990/2 This new part of the cerebellum, or neocerebellum, coordinates skilled movements initiated at cortical levels.
1980 Gray's Anat. (ed. 36) vii. 914/1 With the evolution of the neopallium in the mammal, there is a further expansion of the cerebellum with the addition of the middle lobe, excepting the pyramid and uvula. This addition constitutes the neocerebellum.
2000 Neurochem. Internat. 36 143 The level of synaptophysin increases progressively from postnatal day 7 up to 3 weeks in the archi- and paleocerebellum, and up to 6 weeks in the neocerebellum.
