Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymons: Greek νευρόσπαστον, νευρόσπαστος.
Etymology: < ancient Greek νευρόσπαστον puppet moved by strings, use as noun of neuter of νευρόσπαστος moved by strings < νεῦρον sinew (see neuro- comb. form) + σπᾶν to draw (see spasm n.) + -τος, suffix forming verbal adjectives.
Obsolete.
A figure or puppet controlled by strings. Cf. marionette n. 1.
