1953 E.-M. Jung in Jrnl. Hist. Ideas 14 519 The Protestant elements of Evangelism in their turn divided into two streams. One led to Nicodemism, which is a degeneration of Evangelism, of its principles of a purely internal, individual devotion.
1971 Amer. Hist. Rev. 76 1157/1 The spread of Nicodemism can be explained largely by the expectations for a rapid solution to religious differences aroused by the Colloquy of Regensburg and the calling of the Council of Trent.
1997 Church Times 14 Feb. 12/4 Evidence on Nicodemism can be as evasive as its practitioners intended.
