Etymology: < NEP n.3 + man n.1, after Russian nèpman (plural nèpmany). Compare French Nepman (1924 or earlier; plural Nepmans, Nepmen, Nepmany).
Originally (now historical): a person engaged in private enterprise under the New Economic Policy (see NEP n.3) in the Soviet Union. Later, also (in extended use): a successful entrepreneur.
