Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French nervure.
Etymology: < French nervure vein in a leaf (1719), vein in an insect's wing (1764; in Middle French denoting a leather or sinew strap used to strengthen a shield (c1380), a relief line decorating a fabric (1514), moulding in relief (1542)) < nerf nerf n.1 + -ure -ure suffix1.
