Etymology: < Raga nivanuatu (and similar forms in other Vanuatu languages), lit. ‘of Vanuatu’ < ni- of + Vanuatu, the name of an independent republic in the south-west Pacific.The name Vanuatu, lit. ‘eternal land’, is < Raga (or a cognate language) vanua land, place, village, island, country + tu to stay, persist, stand.
