Of, relating to, or designating a phylum of African languages which includes the Nilotic languages together with certain other languages of the northern half of Africa between Mali and Tanzania. Also as n.Although there is now widespread acceptance of the existence of a Nilo-Saharan language family, later scholars have proposed genetic classifications that differ from that of Greenberg. The exact number of Nilo-Saharan languages is not known.
