Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: non- prefix, importation n.
Etymology: < non- prefix + importation n. Compare French non-importation (1775 or earlier; < English). Compare non-exportation n.
Failure or refusal to import goods, esp. (U.S. History) in contravention of agreements or acts made by American colonial governments between 1768 and 1774 to prevent the import of goods from Britain (cf. non-exportation n.). Frequently attributive.
