Etymology: < classical Latin nōdātiōn-, nōdātiō knotty structure, in post-classical Latin specifically a lumpiness of flesh (a1350 in a British medical text) < nōdāt- , past participial stem of nōdāre (see node v.) + -iō -ion suffix1. Compare Middle French nodation a lumpiness of flesh (15th cent.).
Obsolete. rare.
1. A knotted part, a knotty formation; spec. a lumpiness of flesh. Cf. nodosity n. 1.
