单词 nirankari
释义

Nirankarin.

Brit. /nɪrəŋˈkɑːri/, U.S. /ˌnɪrənˈkɑri/
Inflections: Plural Nirankaris, unchanged.
Origin: A borrowing from Panjabi. Etymon: Panjabi niraṅkārī.
Etymology: < Panjabi niraṅkārī < Sanskrit nir-ākāra formless + -i suffix2.The reference to formlessness is based on the sect's emphasis on the traditional Sikh belief that God cannot be represented in corporeal form.
Sikhism.
A member of a Sikh reform movement founded in 1851 by Baba Dayāl Dās (1783–1855).Dayāl Dās and his followers stressed the need for simplicity in worship and lifestyle, and rejected the use of idols. Although the Nirankaris are regarded as a sect by orthodox Sikhs, there is in fact now little to distinguish them apart from their veneration of Dayāl Dās and his successors as Gurus.
