Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin nōdus , -i- connective.
Etymology: < classical Latin nōdus knot, joint, node (see node n.) + -i- connective.Attested from the beginning of the 18th cent., earliest in nodiflorous, and in the 19th cent. in a larger number of English formations. The second element of formations in nodi- is usually of Latin origin. Compare French nodi-, formations in which are found from first half of the 19th cent.
Chiefly Zoology and Botany.
Forming adjectives with the sense ‘of or relating to a node or nodes; nodal’.
