Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Nogai, combined with an English element. Or (ii) from a proper name, combined with an English element. Etymons: Nogai nogai ; proper name Nogai , -an suffix.
Etymology: < either Nogai nogai Nogai n. or the name of Nogai (see Nogai adj. and n.) + -an suffix. Compare Old Russian, Russian †nagajskij , adjective (17th cent.), Russian nogajskij (1938 or earlier). Compare Nogai adj. and n., nagaika n.
