Etymology: < nitro- comb. form + -form comb. form3, after German Nitroform (L. Schischkoff 1857). Compare French nitroforme (1868 in Littré).
Chemistry.
An explosive white crystalline compound, CH(NO2)3, which is a derivative of methane having three nitro groups attached to the carbon atom; trinitromethane. nitroform anion n. the corresponding anion, C(NO2)3.
