Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from French. Or (ii) a borrowing from Latin. Etymons: French nonagenaire; Latin nōnāgēnārius.
Etymology: < Middle French nonagenaire (1562 in this sense in Du Pinet's translation of Pliny; compare quot. 1601) or its etymon classical Latin nōnāgēnārius consisting of ninety of anything (see nonagenarian n.), used by Pliny (see quot. 1601) for motion ninety degrees distant from the sun.
Astronomy. Obsolete. rare.
