Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin obvertere.
Etymology: < classical Latin obvertere to turn towards, to turn one's attention to, to direct against < ob- ob- prefix + vertere to turn (see vert v.1).
1. transitive. Originally: to turn one's attention to (a subject) (rare). Later: to place (something) facing, to turn (something) to, towards. Obsolete.
