Etymology: Origin uncertain; probably < an Australian Aboriginal language of Queensland.It has been suggested (see quot. 1847) that this word is < Yagara (Moreton Bay region), but no similar word has been found in Yagara wordlists.1847 F. W. L. Leichhardt Jrnl. Overland Exped. Austral. x. 315 We called this tree the ‘Nonda’ from its resemblance to a tree so called by the natives in the Moreton Bay district.
