Etymology: Probably partly a variant of ac conj., and partly < early Scandinavian (compare Old Icelandic ok (Icelandic og ), Norn (Shetland) u , Old Swedish ok (Swedish och ), Danish og : see eke adv.) with adversative sense after ac conj.For further discussion see E.
