Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin Occanista.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin Occanista (1512 or earlier) < Occan , altered form of the name of William of Ockham (frequently also spelt Occam : see Ockhamist n. and adj.) + -ista -ist suffix. Compare Italian Occanist (1546 in the passage translated in quot. ?1573). Compare later Ockhamist n. and adj.
