单词 occasionate
释义

occasionateadj.

Origin: Perhaps of multiple origins. A borrowing from Latin, combined with English elements. Perhaps also partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: Latin occasionatus ; occasion n.1, -ate suffix2.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin occasionatus determined by circumstances, incidental, imperfect (c1230–50 in Bartholomaeus Anglicus: compare quot. a1398 at occasional adj. 1; from late 14th cent. in continental sources), subject to qualification (a1446 in a British source), use as adjective of past participle of occasionare (see occasionate v.). In senses 2 and 3 perhaps independently < occasion n.1 + -ate suffix2.
