1894 Amer. Naturalist 28 110 Lilienfeld, who..has named the characteristic constituent of the nucleus [of leucocytes], nucleo-histon, describes this body as a nucleo-proteid, a body comparable to a chemical salt composed of a proteid base, histon, and a complex acid, leukonuclein, which in turn is made up of nucleic acid and proteid.
1907 C. von Noorden et al. Metabolism & Pract. Med. II. vii. 391 Nucleohistone, which forms, according to Lilienfeld, about 69 per cent. of the dry substance of the leucocytes, has been found by A. Jolles in a case of pseudo-leuchæmia.
1914 Chem. Abstr. 8 714 There is no reason to assume that nucleohistones contain any other but the genuine nucleic acid.
1964 G. H. Haggis et al. Introd. Molecular Biol. ix. 236 The protein and nucleic acid components of nucleoprotamines and nucleohistones are held together largely by electrostatic forces.
1995 Proc. National Acad. Sci. U.S.A. 92 12455/1 Mice with the late-stage spermatid-defect phenotype fail to make mature Prm2 protein, suggesting that transition from nucleohistones to protamines in these animals is incomplete.
