Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin notator.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin notator recorder, clerk, notary (from 12th cent. in British sources), person who records musical notation (from 13th cent. in British sources) < classical Latin notāt- , past participial stem of notāre note v.2 + -or -or suffix. Compare classical Latin annotātor annotator n., Middle French, French notateur (1552), Italian notatore (a1722).
