Biochemistry.
A compound structurally related to epinephrine (adrenaline), which functions as a neurotransmitter in the central and peripheral sympathetic nervous systems and is also a secretory product of the adrenal medulla, and is used as a vasoconstricting drug; 1-(3, 4-dihydroxyphenyl)-2-aminoethanol, (HO)2C6H3·CHOH·CH2NH2. Also called noradrenaline.Norepinephrine is the Recommended International Nonproprietary Name (rINN) of this compound.
