Origin: A borrowing from Yiddish. Etymon: Yiddish nudnik.
Etymology: < Yiddish nudnik < nud- , stem of nudyen to bore, pester (see noodge v.) + -nik -nik suffix. Compare Russian nuda boredom, boring or tedious person, nudnyj boring, tedious, Polish nudziarz (see noodge n.), nudny boring. Compare noodge n.
U.S. colloquial.
Esp. in Jewish usage: a pestering, nagging, or irritating person; a bore. Cf. noodge n.
