Etymology: < post-classical Latin oblata (from c1178 in British sources), use as noun of neuter plural of classical Latin oblātus (see oblate n.1).With Oblata Roll compare post-classical Latin rotulus oblatorum (from 1200 in British sources).
English Law. Now historical.
Unpaid debts owed to the Crown, carried forward from previous years by the Exchequer, and placed in the hands of the incoming sheriff for collection; (also) gifts or offerings made to the monarch by a subject or subjects, esp. in return for favours. Now only in Oblata Roll n. an exchequer roll containing a record of the oblata; see also Oblate Roll n. at Oblate n.2, fine roll n.; usually in plural.

1891 C. R. Scargill-Bird Guide to P.R.O. 35 The Rolls upon which were entered the sums of money (or other property..) offered to the king by way of oblation or fine for the passing or renewal of charters or grants, and for the enjoyment of lands, offices, wardships, exemptions..and other marks of royal favour, were called Oblata or Fine Rolls. The first of these appellations fell into disuse after the reign of John, the latter only being thenceforward retained.
1961 J. Unett Making Pedigree xv. 94 Fine Rolls (originally Oblata Rolls) run in an almost unbroken sequence from I John to 1641, over five hundred rolls.
