Etymology: < Anglo-Norman and Old French norri, nurri, Anglo-Norman and Old French, Middle French nourri ward, foster-child, dependent, retainer (1155 in Old French; also in Old French as nori ; in Anglo-Norman also in sense ‘pupil’), use as noun of past participle of norrir , nurrir , nourrir , etc. (see nourish v., and compare norry v.).
