Etymology: < nurse v. + -er suffix1. Compare nursher n., and later nourisher n.Quot. 1363-4 at sense 1 may rather imply currency of an unattested variant (with loss of the vowel in second syllable: compare nurse v.) of Anglo-Norman nuriseur , norisour foster father (see nourisher n.).
