Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element; perhaps modelled on a French lexical item, or perhaps modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: Latin occlūs- , occlūdere , -ive suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin occlūs-, past participial stem of occlūdere occlude v. + -ive suffix, probably after French occlusif (1876 as adjective in medical context, 1885 as adjective and noun in linguistic context) or German occlusiv (1880 as adjective in linguistic context; now okklusiv).
