Etymology: < the name of Oblomov (see Oblomov n.) + -ism suffix, after Russian Oblomovščina.The Russian word Oblomovščina occurs in the novel Oblomov, when the hero is trying to decide whether or not to take action, but it was popularized in the allusive sense by reviews of the book, particularly an article entitled Čto takoe Oblomovščina? ‘What is Oblomovism?’, by N. A. Dobroljubov.
Sluggish or languorous inertia; supineness, indecision, procrastination.
