Etymology: < post-classical Latin odorativus that has a pleasant smell (4th cent.; from 13th cent. in British sources in sense ‘olfactory’) < classical Latin odōrāt- , past participial stem of odōrāre to perfume (see odorant adj. and n.) + -īvus -ive suffix. Compare Middle French odoratif having a sense of smell, relating to the sense of smell (14th cent.), having a pleasant smell (16th cent., in an isolated attestation).
Scottish. Obsolete. rare.
