Etymology: < nymph n.1 + -et suffix1. Compare Middle French, French nymphette (1512 in sense A. 1); with sense A. 2 compare nymphette n.In form nymphette in quot. 1616 at sense A. 1 probably after Middle French nymphette (see above). N.E.D. (1907) gives only the pronunciation (ni·mfėt) /ˈnɪmfɪt/.
