Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek νυμϕόληπτος.
Etymology: < ancient Greek νυμϕόληπτος caught by nymphs, raptured, frenzied < νυμϕο- , combining form of νύμϕη nymph (see nympha n.) + ληπτός ( < the base of λαμβάνειν to take (see -labe comb. form)) + -τός , suffix forming verbal adjectives. Compare earlier nympholepsy n.
