单词 obsequience
释义

obsequiencen.

Brit. /əbˈsiːkwɪəns/, U.S. /əbˈsikwiəns/
Origin: Probably a borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin obsequentia.
Etymology: Probably < classical Latin obsequentia obsequence n. (compare -ence suffix), remodelled after obsequious adj. Compare French obséquience (1848 in an isolated attestation). Compare also earlier obsequence n., obsequency n., and obsequent adj.1Webster (1886) records obsequience as an irregular form of obsequence n., but does not include the latter in any previous editions and marks both words as rare; obsequence n. is also not included in Bailey (1770), Richardson (1836), or Worcester (1846), and is apparently unattested in the 18th cent.
Compliance, obsequiousness, deference.
