Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin Odacinae.
Etymology: < scientific Latin Odacinae, former subfamily name < Odax , genus name (Cuvier Règne animal (1829) II. 266; < ancient Greek ὀδάξ (adverb) by biting with the teeth, of unknown origin) + -inae -inae suffix (compare -ine suffix1). N.E.D. (1902) gives the pronunciation as (ǫ·dăsəin) /ˈɒdəsaɪn/.
Zoology. Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.

Of or relating to the former subfamily Odacinae of wrasse-like fishes of Australia and New Zealand which have thick lips and fused teeth, now constituting the family Odacidae.
