Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin obcordatus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin obcordatus (1765 or earlier; also in scientific Latin as a specific epithet from 1781) < ob- ob- prefix + cordatus cordate adj. Compare earlier obversely cordated (see quot. 1752 at obversely adv.). N.E.D. (1902) gives the pronunciation as (ǫbkǭ·ɹdĕt) /ɒbˈkɔːdət/.
